Alegria
Frequently Asked Questions

Wireless Internet

Free of charge to renters.

Our Internet system is called “Village#,” and the password, if any, will be given to you in the pre-arrival information communication.  There are actually three such systems, and you are welcome to switch to another one if you find your first choice too slow.  However, this may not solve the speed problem during peak use hours.  This Internet system is shared with other renters and is inherently slow, in particular during peak hours (mid morning, late afternoon, prime-time evening). It is much slower than your DSL system at your home or place of work.  There is no Ethernet cable connection at Alegria, only WiFi.

We strongly recommend that you bring your smart phone, tablet, or laptop.  On your smart phone or tablet, make sure to engage the “Airplane Mode”  and, following that, turn on WiFi.  This way you will avoid incurring unwanted and uncontrollable air data charges, while being fully connected to the Internet.  We recommnd that you have a "Skype" account and be versed in using Skype, so you can make inexpensive voice calls to anywhere in the world.

Even though slow, this Internet system available at Alegria is usually adequate for e-mailing, Skyping, and modest web surfing, but NOT SUITED FOR STREAMING. If you are used to streaming, we suggest you download the movies you want to see at your home before you depart.
