Frequently Asked Questions

Emergency

---- In case of an emergency use the house phone and call 9-1-1.
---- If unable to reach 9-1-1, use the house phone and dial 565-2121.
---- If the house phone does not work, use your cell phone and call 1-707-565-2121.
(Do NOT call 9-1-1 as this will connect you to CHP and you will lose time).
---- If neither house phone nor cell phone will work, use call box at Mile 56.25 on Hwy 1 and  be connected there to an emergency operator.

(To get to that call box from Bella Vista, go back down Tallgrass, turn left -- south -- onto Leeward Road, then past the Rec Center and left onto Deer Trail to Hwy 1, then turn right onto Hwy 1 and find the call box after going 0.57 miles south on Hwy 1).

Safety

Upon your arrival at Bella Vista, please find and read a one-page information sheet entitled "EMERGENCY:  Who do you call?"
Then familiarize yourself with the location of the fire extinguishers.  One is located in the family room at the fireplace, another in a closet in the master bedroom, one on the mezzanine, and one in the garage.

Please help us maintain utmost fire safety.  The house is located in an area that is, during the summer and fall season, considered "high fire danger."
Specifically:
--- use the gas grill or Weber only on the gravel surface of the driveway, or on the concrete in the entry way, but not on a wooden deck;
--- assure that the grease catcher is in place under the gas grill;
--- no bonfires on the beach!
--- during Red Flag Warning periods use of the fireplace is prohibited.
--- burn only those fuels in the fireplace that do not generate excess amounts of glowing embers, i.e. only firewood, NO PAPER, NO PINE NEEDLES, NO CHRISTMAS TREES
--- start a fire in the fireplace only with dry wood kindling or Duraflame Firestarters (or equiv.), NOT with NEWSPAPER or alike.
--- keep the door of the fireplace closed at all times when a fire is burning;
--- keep the heat of the fire low -- not too many logs at any one time, pleaseBe considerate!
--- keep a fire in the fireplace under CONSTANT SUPERVISION;
--- keep children near the fireplace under supervision;--- do not dispose hot ashes anywhere; leave this to our housekeepers to take care of;

Please assure that children are under constant supervision when in the hot tub.

Please mind the hot cooking surface of the kitchen range -- very dangerous for children!
Keep the cooktop clear of burnables, such as dishtowels.
Do not leave the house while something is cooking on the range or in the oven.

Due to the related extreme fire danger, we do not permit the use of any candles at Bella Vista (tea lights in metal containers are OK) -- no exceptions, please!
