Casa de Luz
Frequently Asked Questions

Wireless Internet

Free of charge to renters.

Our Internet system is called “Casa de Luz,” and the password, will be given to you in the pre-arrival information communication.  This Internet system is reasonably fast (nominally 10MB down, 3MB up) but can significantly slow down at peak hours (mid morning, late afternoon, prime-time evening).  If you wish to stay free of electronic noise, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable going into the router (on a small sideboard next to the dining table) and plug it in directly into the Ethernet port of your laptop.  You can then turn off the router and work in a noise-free environment.   When you depart, make sure to make the WiFi functional again as you found it.*

We recommend that guests bring their personal smart phone, tablet, or laptop computer equipped with Skype or a similar Internet-based telephoning capability with which they can make inexpensive local, national and international phone calls.  Some smart phones, such as iPhones Model 6 and up, have a feature called "WiFi-Calling."  With this feature you can call and be called from everywhere free of charge, as long as you are connected to a WiFi system, such as the one we have at Casa de Luz.**

* That feed cable is relatively short.  If you desire to use your laptop noise-free but in a more comfortable location, bring your own extension Ethernet cable (with one male and one female end or a female-female connector).
**
Make sure that "WiFi" and then "Wifi-Calling" are enabled; you should then also be in "Airplane Mode" to be protected against inadvertent data charges when your smart phone is out of reach of WiFi.  Check with your provider if they support this free "WiFi-Calling" phone use (Verizon Wireless seems affirmative).
