Restaurants
There are quite a few restaurants in Abadiania
and near-by. Our biased recommendations:
-- Alquimia: buffet lunches and dinners, good selection of meats, vegetables, fish, rices
and potatoes (priced by weight, approx. R$39/kg)
-- Jeriva, Route 66, Sabor Goinana ("new"):
about 2-4km outside of Abadiania, excellent buffet style lunches
and dinners, also coffees and sweets (priced by weight, slightly
higher than Alquimia); priced higher on weekends ($$$)
-- Frutti's: a la carte sandwich-
and salad-oriented meals, sweets, coffees, juices, nice
ambiance ($$ - $$$)
-- Pizzeria Sao Joao: similar to Frutti's ($$)
All of the above offer their food to go, which makes for a
nice meal on the terrace of Casa de Luz, in total quietude,
with soothing views, and without having to cook it ...
Some of the local hotels
("pousadas") also cater to walk-in guests for their buffet
meals. You should be on time (noon and 6:00 PM) and find
a manager to pay for your meal when you leave. Price is
typically R$15-R$25 per meal. Good suggestions are
Pousada Caminho Encantado, Pousada Irmao Sol e Irma Luna,
Pousada Amor e Luz, Pousada Luz Divina, and others. Tipping is
not common at restaurants.
There are also a few charming
street cafes/restaurants offering a la carte meals and juices
which you may want to visit.
Your choices are much fewer on
Sundays, when almost every establishment in Abadiania is
closed, except for Frutti's (in the afternoon), and the
outside restaurants," Jeriva, Route
60, and the two Sabor Goiano places
(yes, there are two, a new one and an older one, under the
same ownership, 2 km apart, and with exactly the same
name -- so if you make an appointment to meet, make sure to
arrange for one of the two).
