Casa Pacis
Frequently Asked Questions

Fireplace

Casa Pacis has a conventional open fireplace, one of the type that are outlawed for new construction but are grandfathered into existing buildings and are now highly attractive amenities in vacation rental homes.

Please observe the following:
-- open the flue vent before lighting fire (take a flash light and ascertain by looking if it's in the open position);
-- use only wood kindling or special firestarters (we usually supply those as a courtesy to our renters, but if that supply has run out, you can purchase them at the Surf Supermarket in Gualala); only tiny amounts (perhaps 1 cubic-inch) of those commercial fire starters will do the job.  DO NOT USE PAPER OF ANY KIND to start a fire. You may use our firewood (stacked outside by the fence) as long as the supply lasts. During the rainy period, be kind to those coming after you to place a few logs in the dry entrance area, where you should find your dry wood.
-- leave a window open just a bit to let some fresh air in
-- move furniture away from the heat of the fireplace.
-- ascertain that no burning ambers will reach the carpet.

-- DO NOT REMOVE ASHES or partially burnt logs when you depart; for reasons of fire safety, our housekeepers will do the fireplace cleanup.

During the dry season (May - October) fire danger is high at Sea Ranch.  Be particularly careful during these months.
