Garbage Can Location and Pick-up

There are two garbage cans. They are located outside in the bear-proof metal garbage bin (the "bear box") at the driveway, close to the street.*  Pick-up is on Tuesdays.** 
Recycling: up in the kitchen, under the counter, find two bins with blue plastic liners that are used for recycled items. All recyclables can be mixed without preference: glass, plastic, clean paper. When full, these blue bags must also be placed INSIDE the bear box -- but NOT INSIDE A GARBAGE CAN, please place them NEXT TO them.

The garbage company is extremely picky.  To avoid expensive extra charges, please:
-- Only recyclables in blue bags (NO TRASH)
-- Blue bags must be CLOSED/TIED at top (never over-fill)
-- Blue bags must be placed NEXT TO the can, NOT INSIDE it.
-- Trash can must not be filled beyond the rim  (NO "SPILL-OVERS")
-- Trash not in a trash can will be charged as extra can (ONE CAN PER BAG)  - take it home with you if it does not fit in the can without "spill-over"
-- Trash can may not weigh more than 60 lb
-- NEVER place a bag outside the bear box (this would trigger huge fines by Tahoe-Donner Association)

*  If the bear box is covered under snow, please use one of the shovels we provide to access it; if the bear box is inconvenient to access due to inclement weather or snow, take your garbage and recyclables home with you.  NEVER LEAVE GARBAGE OR RECYCLABLES IN THE HOUSE OR GARAGE OR ANYWHERE OUTSIDE when you depart. 

** Depending on when previous renters departed, it can happen that the bear box is not empty when you arrive.  Also, be aware that the garbage company will only empty the bear box if it is fully accessible and free of snow.
