IF YOU
LANDED ON THIS PAGE, IT IS BY ERROR. THERE IS NO HOT TUB
AT ALTA VISTA. (It was abandoned and removed in early 2018).
WE DO HAVE AN INDOOR 2-PERSON JACUZZI TUB IN DESIRABLE VIEW
LOCATION, AND WE OFFER A DRY SAUNA.
===============================
Hot
Tub
We offer
the hot tub as an optional rental amenity
for a separate fee of $30 per rental. (For Airbnb rentals,
this fee is incorporated in the housekeeping fee and will be
rebated after completion of the rental if the guests state at
the time of booking that they will not use the hot
tub).
In a winter climate location, such as in
Tahoe-Donner, an outside hot tub is an amenity that bears
the distinct risk of temporary or even seasonal failure
(such as freezing during power outage, with unfreezing
impossible until spring time). In such an event, we
will refund the $30 paid use fee.
================================
Use of the hot tub is at your own
risk. Our hot tub is
sanitized with a combination of ozone and bromine. While
sanitation with ozone and bromine, each by itself, is highly
effective, and the two are synergistic in their sanitation
effect, there is always a finite possibility of an unforeseen
malfunction out of our control. People who are sensitive
to such chemicals or water-born skin irritations should refrain
from using the hot tub.
================================
A "Plug" for
our Jacuzzi Tub:
Before we get into
the details of our hot tub, we wish to point
out that Alta Vista has a 2-person jacuzzi
tub in an essentially identical panoramic view location; equally
private, but inside
and at cozy warm air
temperature -- an advantage
we personally prefer in winter over the
chore of having to step
into snow to open up the cover, perhaps even remove snow
from it, and close it afterwards while shivering in
chilling wind ...
================================
Our hot tub is built into the deck off the lower
master bedroom. The controls are on the rim of the hot tub.
Find a separate laminated instruction sheet inside that room.
General Rules and Precautions:
-- This is a 2-person lounger. To
prevent excessive water loss, we request that
you do not use the tub for more than two people at a time.
-- NEVER turn the hot tub completely off by
pulling the plug (on the outside wall to the right of the tub)!!
(It might then freeze, which triggers
major, costly repairs).
-- NO children in hot tub without supervision --
ever!
-- Never step on hot tub cover - it is not
designed to walk or sit on and will break (replacement
cost >$500).
-- It is perfectly adequate (and much easier and safer)
to fold the cover only half-way, rather than removing it
entirely.
-- Keep the cover on at all times
when the tub is not in use, to avoid unnecessary heat loss.
-- Do not change the settings of the
jets (proper setting is
required for correct functioning of the ozonator).
-- The cover must be strapped down
at all times (so wind gusts won't grab it
and blow it away).
-- Teach the others in your party
about these important instructions.
-- We typically set the hot tub temperature to 102 degrees.
To adjust to your personal comfort
temperature, simply push the up/down key* (the far right key)
on the controller on the rim of the tub - note that a few
seconds after such re-set, the controller will revert to
indicating the actual, not the set temperature.
Heating and Sanitation
-- The water level should be about 4" below the rim of the tub;
use the garden hose.
-- In winter, the hose should be disconnected from the faucet
and positioned downhill all the way (so all water can
drain from it and will not freeze inside the hose).
When snow renders use of the garden hose impractical, use a
bucket and get water from the bath tub.
-- Primary sanitation is with Ozone. Bromine is used in addition
but is not necessary. Find bromine tablets on a shelf in
the closet in the lower MBR. Use 2-3 tablets in the floater.
-- If, during the winter months, there is an apparent real problem
and the hot tub motor never appears to be running and the water
remains cold even in the evening, it is very important to
let us know, so we can get a service activated before the tub
starts freezing.

That same button is used for up and down
temperature control. If you missed the correct
temperature setting, keep holding the button until it has
reached the minimum (approx. 65 degrees) or maximum (104
degrees) setting, then release the button and push and
hold it again; it will then go in the other direction and
give you another chance to stop at the desired setting.
Note that a few seconds after such re-set, the
controller will revert to indicating the actual, not the
set temperature.
