Garbage Can Location and Pick-up, Trash,
Recycling
There is one garbage can. It is
dug in the ground* on top of a berm next
to the driveway. In order to keep raccoons from raiding it,***
the lid can be fastened with a metal cable and clip. You will
find that it is all but impossible to keep the raccoons out when
the clip is not engaged ... Pick-up is on Wednesdays - no need
for you to do anything to facilitate this.
For recycling** you
have the following options:
1. If
you are at Casa Pacis on Wednesday, place
your recyclables in a bag next to the in-ground garbage
can on Tuesday night (or before
8am on Wednesday).
2. Take your recyclables
to a collection place in Gualala (in the
back of Gualala Hotel; opening hours Wed - Sat 9:00 - 4:30; they even pay you for it,
but you won't get rich from it
...).
3. (Preferred)
Take your recyclables with you when
you depart.
4. Put your
recyclables together with your trash inside
the in-ground trash can (and
hope that the trash company will do the
recycling for you).
5. (Try to avoid
this option) Leave your sorted
recyclables in marked plastic trash cans
inside the left shed. (But if you do
so, they MUST
BE WASHED
AND CLEAN)
Under
no circumstance leave your
garbage or recyclables inside the
house or garage when you
depart.

Please note that this
is different from how
it used to be at Casa
Pacis. The trash
cans are no longer in
the shed -- the cans
there are for
recycling only.
** They permit
recycling only for
glass and cans -- NO
PAPER, NO PLASTICS!
*** Note: raccoons are VERY
clever and also
like to get
into the house
by pushing
screen doors
open or simply
breaking
through them
- HIDE
your foods in
the kitchen
before you go
to bed !!! --
or better yet,
keep all glass
sliding doors
closed at
night
!!!!
