Alta Vista -- Frequently Asked Questions --

Safety

Upon your arrival at Alta Vista Chalet, please familiarize yourself with the location of the fire extinguishers.  One is located in the family room at the fireplace, another in a closet in the master bedroom; others in a bedroom on the main level and in the garage.

Please help us maintain utmost fire safety.  The house is located in an area that is, during the summer and fall season, considered "high fire danger."
Specifically:
--- use the gas grill only on the lower side deck where you find it, on a fire-safe pad;
--- when in use, move the gas grill about 12" away from the house wall;
--- assure that the grease catcher is in place under the gas grill;
--- Between 6/1 and 11/30 campfires and USE OF CHARCOAL (such as in Webers) are STRICTLY PROHIBITED ANYWHERE IN TAHOE DONNER!
     Penalties are HUGE (several thousand dollars) and payable by offending party.
--- keep children near the fireplaces under supervision;

Please assure that children are under constant supervision when in the hot tub, in the sauna, or on the deck.
Please mind the hot cooking surface of the kitchen range -- very dangerous for children!
Keep the cooktop clear of burnables, such as dishtowels.
Do not leave the house while something is cooking on the range or in the oven.

Due to the related extreme fire danger, we do not permit the use of any candles at Alta Vista (tea lights in metal containers are OK) -- no exceptions, please!

IMPORTANT SAFETY and LIABILITY ADVISORIES

High Decks, Railings:
The Alta Vista Chalet is built on a sloping grade, and the main and upper level view decks are about 10 feet and 20 feet above grade, respectively.  Even though the railings are highly secure and 40" above deck level (higher than building codes require), children are often inquisitive and prone to do the unexpected.  Before you even realize it, they might, for example, push a chair against the railing and be in SERIOUS jeopardy.  Young adults might get the craziest ideas of games to play on the large deck areas, and renters and their guest at large might be impaired and in danger due consumption of drugs and/or alcohol ...
PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHILDREN UNDER CONSTANT SUPERVISION WHILE ON A DECK.  PLEASE BE GENERALLY AWARE OF THE DANGERS OF DECKS HIGH ABOVE GRADE.  SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH CAN RESULT FROM FALLING OFF A DECK.

Use of Equipment, Slippery Decks and Pavement:
Owners and their agents are not responsible for personal injury or loss, theft or damage to your belongings during your stay due to causes outside of Owners' or Agents' control, or due to unsafe use of the premises and amenities, including but not limited to the hot tub, sauna, Jacuzzi tub, shower stalls, gas fireplaces, gas grill, stair cases, and view decks, which may function differently than you expect them to, and uses of which are ALWAYS AND UNCONDITIONALLY AT YOUR OWN RISK. In particular, in the cold season, snow and ice may build up on decks, outside stairs, and in the driveway, causing slippery conditions that may lead to personal injury.  Wooden decks can be slippery when wet, regardless of season.   CONCOMITANT WITH YOUR RENTAL OF ALTA VISTA, YOU AGREE TO HOLD OWNERS HARMLESS IN THE EVENT OF RELATED INJURY OR LOSS, OR OF THEFT OR DAMAGE OF YOUR OR OUR PROPERTY.

Sports and Recreational Equipment:
Guests are not permitted to use Owner's sports equipment or other gear that may from time to time be left in the garage (e.g., motor vehicles, sailboat, kayak, raft, bicycles, skis, etc.). Owners and their agents are not responsible for their renters' and guests' own and their children's safety while at the rented vacation home.
